About us

Established in 1974, the United Hellenic Voters of America (UHVA) is a nonpartisan, grassroots political organization founded by Dr. Dimitrios Kyriazopoulos, serving the Greek-American community throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, with chapters in several other regions across the country.

The UHVA is committed to advancing issues vital to Greek-Americans by actively engaging in political and civic affairs, fostering community involvement, and building strong, productive relationships with elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels. We strongly encourage active participation in local elections, recognizing that municipal and county offices often have the most direct impact on our neighborhoods, schools, public safety, and daily quality of life. By promoting informed voting and civic engagement, UHVA works to ensure our community’s voice is heard where it matters most.

Our Purpose

  • To promote citizenship among people of Hellenic descent and establish relationships with other diverse groups.

  • To endorse and actively support candidates for elections and/or appointed offices.

  • To encourage members to participate in the political process at the local, state and national levels.

  • To educate and instruct members of their rights and privileges as responsible citizens.

  • To encourage and support it's members to participate in political affairs of the communities.

  • To encourage participation in LOCAL ELECTIONS stressing the impact on our communities

Main Events

Annual Awards Gala

At the UHVA Annual Awards Gala, we present awards to our selected honorees. Typically, there are two categories for awards: One for high level elected officials, and the other for distinguished Greek-Americans. Included among the many elected officials who have been honored by the UHVA in the past, are U.S. Senators, U.S. Congressmen, Illinois Governors, State Legislators, and Mayors. These events are attended by many leaders of the Greek-American community, government officials, businessmen, and UHVA members and supporters.

Endorsements

During election years, the UHVA invites candidates for local, state and federal elected offices to “Endorsement Sessions”where candidates state their views and outline their specific plans. Then, the UHVA selects the candidates that they will endorse, regardless of their party affiliations, based on merit and how they stand on the key issues, particularly those issues that concern the Greek-American community.
